monsieur elbaz doesn't miss a mark with lanvin's 09 pre-fall collection. love the old hollywood feel to the photos and the subtle lace and tulle details. i also love how he shows glamorous yet sexy without exposing to0 much skin.

continuing with the old glamour theme, i found some pictures of vintage designer gowns.

vintage chanel haute couture gown, 1950s [above] and christian dior dress,

two pictures i absolutely loved of audrey hepburn. the beautiful miss hepburn at a dress fitting with hubert de givenchy, 1958

so I’ll close my eyes and see things from the past

an inspiration board of all things vintage: briefcases, perfume, advertisements, radios etc... it always seems like things which are faded are more beautiful than new things. they've been inspiring me a lot lately and i personally find a lot more value and beauty in old things, worn away things.
[please click on the layout to enlarge it]

some random pictures i found on flickr that truly captured that vintage essence i've been inspired by these few days.

'reflections of glamour' - by steven meisel. i love the lighting in this photoshoot. it feels like an old polaroid. and it also helps that the models are beautiful.

moi, je joue

miss dior cherie advertisement filmed by sofia coppola.
song: moi je joue - brigitte bardot
what comes to mind when describing sofia coppola? delicate. fragile. delicately fragile, perhaps?but definitely beautiful. graceful and elegant; an elusive quality that makes her exude 'charmeuse'.

2009

happy new year from r. & k.!
maybe it'll be a little annoying to adjust to writing 2009 instead of 2008. and yes, we do have our IGCSE exams in may. and okay, maybe we won't survive the exam pressure. but hopefully, 2009 will be a year filled with fantastic clothes, inspiring designes, fashionable opportunites and the like. we also sincerely hope that it will be the end of uggs and juicy couture trackpants. please put your hands together and pray for such miracles. amen.

alt, saglio, huynh: les femmes de vogue paris

melanie huynh: assistant stylist
this is a woman who has the formula for a winning outfit.
blazer+skirt+tights+killer heels+shirt
or
leather jacket+leggings+basic tee+ killer heels
either way, the result is always the same: basically fashionable [pun intended].

emmanuelle alt: fashion director
the impossibly chic miss alt is fashion royalty. though she favors basics, her style always has an unattainable air that makes you wonder how on earth she can make such simple pieces look so fabulous.

geraldine saglio : assitant to miss alt
miss saglio perhaps has the best gams in the industry; and she knows it. favoring simple silhouttes accented with structured blazers and jackets. plus, i've never seen anyone who can look so chic in an otherwise 'trashy' miniskirt. true fashion genius that continues to baffle me so.

outfits galore.

here are some outfits i compiled whilst endlessly browsing net-a-porter, brownsfashion and forever 21. though i tried to incorporate affordable yet stylish pieces, i was inevitably drawn to the grandeur of designer items. obviously the outfits should be viewed from left to right, row by row.
in the first layout, i included:
[first row, left to right]: fantastic Narciso Rodriguez trousers with incredibly crisp lines, a Paul and Joe Sister blue buttondown, Helmut Lang grey coat, Helmut Lang aurora scarf and dries van noten heels.
[second row, left to right]: alexander wang zip skirt (mentioned in the previous blog), helmut lang tank top, balenciaga leather jacket and marni heels.

another layout produced whilst i was desperately trying to avoid any studying.
first row, from left to right:
1. d&g organza dress: incredibly beautiful melange of colors and a very girly design.
2. vince shawl cardigan: very cozy-looking and breaks down the dress's obvious flirty aspect.
3. forever 21 crepe scarf: the color will definitely add a little something to the outfit and the texture is very beautiful.
4. the balenciaga fringe booties: so versatile and chic.
5. forever 21 ribbed tights
for this outfit, i attempted to add a little color, though i am more fond of a monochromatic palette. i was also interested in mixing the different textures of the tights, the scarf and the cardigan for a hopefully interesting effect.

[second row, left to right]:
1. balenciaga tulip skirt: simple design.
2. nation ltd burnout tee: apparently very soft, love the worn-in look
3. forever 21 hoodie: navy blue and black? check. hoodie and blazer? check. totally chic.
4. maison martin margiela blazer: perfect color for the entire outfit.
5. forever 21 heels: such a beautiful design and color. adds a little character, in my humble opinion.
